Danelectro has produced some of the great guitar effect pedals. I owned a few in the 70's and 80's. When looking to put together a small inexpensive pedal board for practice I decided to try the Danelectro Fab pedals. They retail new at $19 with a street price of $14-15. I have the Distortion, OD, Chorus, and Echo (there is also a Flange and Metal Distortion). For about $75 I have a board that not only sounds good, but looks pretty hot as well. The Fab Distortion blows my mind. I am replacing my Boss DS-1 with this pedal on my main board. The Dano Fab Distortion is pretty sturdy and I jump on my pedals, it has a rich and thoroughly full tonal characteristic. It is the first pedal I have ever used that I could dial in a AC/DC Marshall tone to a near metal distortion. Though I only use one or two tonal settings, this pedal is versatile. Try it as a boost with a passive acoustic pickup and it gives a good, clear signal. The only con I have is the close proximity of the controls. I have big fingers and trying to dial in or change settings on the fly is a bit difficult but it's the price you pay for a small, efficient pedal. If you're a player on a budget, the Dano Fab pedals are what you want. The Distortion is a giant killer in tone and price. Everyone should have one of these. |
